Funeral for Polish volunteer soldier, killed on front line in Ukraine

In Kyiv, at the Baikove Cemetery, a farewell ceremony was held for 22-year-old Polish military volunteer Tomasz Sękala, who died fighting for Ukraine in the Luhansk region

Tomasz Marcin Sękala, born in 2001, was a soldier in the International Legion of Territorial Defence of Ukraine. He joined the Legion in the fall of 2023. Sękala was killed on the battlefield on July 13 in the village of Dibrova, Luhansk region.

The funeral service was held on Saturday, July 20. A military chaplain conducted the memorial service.

“Everyone has their own path and cross in life. Perhaps nothing is more honorable and selfless than serving in the army to defend truth, goodness, and freedom. Today, we are saying goodbye to our friend and comrade Tomasz, who gave his life for freedom and justice,” the chaplain said. 

Tomasz Marcin Sękala will be buried in his hometown in the Lublin Voivodeship.
