Peskov says Russia has advantage, won't stop advancing
The spokesperson for the Russian leader, Dmitry Peskov, claimed that Moscow currently "has a strategic advantage" and commented on the idea of a ceasefire
He said this in an interview with Sky News.
Peskov noted that in recent weeks, Russia has intensified its attacks on Ukraine and continues to reject President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's calls for a 30-day ceasefire.
"Now we have a strategic advantage. Why should we lose it? We are not going to lose it. We are going further. We're advancing and we'll continue to advance" he insisted.
Previously, the Russians said they would agree to a ceasefire only if Western allies stopped supplying aid to Kyiv, arguing that this would give Ukraine a chance to rearm.
However, when asked by a journalist whether Moscow could commit not to use a potential ceasefire in the same way, Peskov said:
"A ceasefire is a ceasefire, and you stop. But America is not saying that 'we'll quit any supplies'. Britain is not saying that as well. France is not saying that as well. This is the problem."
- On June 18, Putin stated he was ready to meet with Volodymyr Zelenskyy at the final stage of negotiations. At the same time, he again questioned the legitimacy of the Ukrainian president.
- In response, Zelenskyy said that to reach a ceasefire, Ukraine is ready to meet in any format with those who have the appropriate authority, including Putin.
