Peace in Ukraine depends on U.S.-China agreement — Polish expert Kulpa
Without China’s participation, there will be no peace in Ukraine. Only after an agreement is reached between the U.S. and China can the framework for peace be established, along with limitations on Putin’s ambitions
This view was expressed on Espreso TV by Piotr Kulpa, former secretary of the Polish delegation to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly and former deputy minister of economy of Poland, in an interview with Anton Borkovskyi, host of the program Studio West.
“Peace will be achieved together with China, because without China’s involvement, there will be no peace. Whoever shapes peace in this phase of the global conflict will set the future rules of the game. Here, the U.S. has shown its weakness. Only after some form of agreement between the United States and China is reached will a peace structure be built and Putin’s unrealistic ambitions be curtailed. China will play a restraining role, as Russia cannot sustain this war without Chinese support. So, we are waiting for some kind of agreement between the U.S. and China,” Kulpa said.
According to Kulpa, negotiations have begun, but China is taking a tough stance by demanding the complete abolition of tariffs. If constructive talks between China and the United States are established, there will be a real chance to halt Russia’s aggression against Ukraine. Until then, there will be no ceasefire—it’s just a game of words and processes that won’t bring an end to the war.
“Why? Because China fears that stopping Russia’s war against Ukraine would free Russian forces to create security risks for Europe. This, in turn, could push Europe closer under U.S. influence—something China wants to avoid. Therefore, it is in China’s interest for Russia to remain constrained and for Europe to feel less threatened. The real threat is the criminal uncertainty and indecision, which primarily come from the United States, undermining Western unity. The political dynamics we see in Europe aim to divide the continent and impose Trumpism. But in reality, today this policy creates more opportunities and more strength for Ukraine than Trump could have expected, and also Vance, when he proclaimed this irresponsible, criminal policy in Munich,” the Polish expert commented.
Kulpa explained that if the U.S. and China reach an agreement, Beijing’s strategy will focus on creating conditions for global cooperation—meaning there will be an understanding to limit conflicts worldwide. However, if no such agreement is reached, China will have an interest in conflicts continuing around the globe, thereby dispersing U.S. influence and repeatedly demonstrating American powerlessness.
