Orbán: Russia too weak for global war as it can't even beat Ukraine
Commenting on the possibility of Russia expanding its war globally, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said that the Russians are too weak for such a move, since “they’re not even capable of defeating Ukraine”
He made the statement in an interview with LCI.
Orbán said he does not fear a global conflict initiated by Moscow.
“The Russians are too weak for that. They’re not even capable of defeating Ukraine, so they’re not in a position to seriously attack NATO,” he said.
The Hungarian leader added that “Ukraine is not suitable for membership in NATO or the European Union.”
“For us Hungarians — and for the entire EU — it’s not in our interest to face the threat of war or a direct conflict with Russia. That’s why Ukraine cannot become a NATO member. I believe we understand Ukrainian history a bit better than the French. (...) We don’t have to love the Russians, but we do need to make deals with them,” Orbán emphasized.
At the same time, he stated that neither Ukrainians nor Europeans will be able to reach an agreement with Russia — claiming instead that “any deal must be made between the Russians and the Americans.”
- Hungarian PM Victor Orbán says he is confident Hungarians will back the government's stance and vote against Ukraine joining the EU.
