Number of missing persons exceeds 50,000 during full-scale war in Ukraine - Ukrainian Police
The number of missing persons in Ukraine has quadrupled since the start of Russia's full-scale invasion. Currently, 50,150 people are considered missing.
Deputy Head of Ukraine's National Police Andriy Nebytov announced this.
"The war has changed the scope of search operations. Before the war, 12,292 people were considered missing for all the years of independence. Since the beginning of the Russian invasion, the number of missing persons has increased fourfold. Today, 50,150 people remain unaccounted for," he wrote.
Nebytov noted that due to the unpredictable situation at the front, massive Russian attacks on cities, migration and temporary occupation of the territories, information gathering and data verification are becoming more difficult.
According to the deputy head of the National Police, the workload of the criminal investigation has increased, but "operatives are working to the maximum and continue to fight for every human life".
- On February 19, the Red Cross reported 23,000 people missing as a result of Russia's armed aggression against Ukraine.
