The visit was announced by US Ambassador to Ukraine Bridget Brink.

"A warm welcome back to Ukraine, US Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs Victoria Nuland," she wrote.

According to the ambassador, Nuland will meet with government leaders, veterans, and civil society "to underscore our shared commitment to defeating Russian aggression in Ukraine".

Later, Bridget Brink said that she and Victoria Nuland visited the Veterans Rehabilitation Center.

"The United States will continue to support Ukraine on all fronts as Ukrainians defend their territory from Russia’s unjust war," Brink said.

The US Ambassador also wrote that Nuland had a joint meeting with Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov. They talked about Ukraine's struggle in the war with Russia.

According to the Ministry of Defence, the head of the department discussed with Nuland and Brink further partnership between Ukraine and the United States.

"I informed them about the situation on the battlefield and the reform of public administration in the defense sector. We discussed issues of further cooperation and strengthening of partnership between the countries," said the Minister of Defense.

The Deputy Secretary of State for Political Affairs also met with Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal.

"We have coordinated our work ahead of the Multilateral Donor Coordination Platform to be held in February. We are working closely with the US and international financial institutions to attract the necessary financial support," he wrote.

The Ukrainian Prime Minister noted that they also talked about the implementation of reforms, including anti-corruption and corporate reforms.

"Ms Nuland noted Ukraine's progress in these areas. I thanked the American Government and people for their comprehensive assistance. Once again, I was convinced that the support of the United States is unwavering," Shmyhal wrote.

The US Deputy Secretary of State told journalists that people in the US admire Ukraine's resilience in confrontation with Russia, Espreso correspondent Kateryna Galko reports.

"Americans understand and admire the miracle that Ukraine has already achieved in defending itself from such a terrible Russian aggression. And we also understand what happens when you fail to not only survive, but thrive. So I'm absolutely confident that this understanding will be reflected in the decision of the Congress on President Biden's proposal," Nuland said.

  • The US Deputy Secretary of State visited Kyiv in early December 2022. She stayed in Ukraine for two days and met with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal, Head of the Presidential Administration Andriy Yermak, many other ministers, top officials, representatives of civil society, and private business.
