
Nearly 4.3 million Ukrainians hold temporary protection in EU
As of January 31, 2025, over 4.29 million Ukrainians have temporary protection in the EU, with the largest numbers in Germany, Poland, and the Czech Republic
The EU has revealed the number of Ukrainians under temporary protection in member states.
As of January 31, 2025, nearly 4.3 million people who fled Ukraine due to Russia’s full-scale aggression held temporary protection status in the European Union.
These figures were published by Eurostat on March 10.
Between late December 2024 and late January 2025, the total number of Ukrainians with temporary protection in the EU increased by over 25,500, reaching 4.29 million.
The largest numbers of temporary protection holders from Ukraine are in Germany (over 1.17 million), Poland (993,000), and the Czech Republic (395,000).
In terms of population percentage, the highest proportion of temporary protection holders was recorded in the Czech Republic (3.6%), Poland (2.7%), and Estonia (2.6%). The EU-wide average stood at 0.95%.
The latest data indicates that Ukrainian citizens account for over 98.4% of all temporary protection beneficiaries in the EU.
Ukrainian citizens represented over 98.4% of the beneficiaries of temporary protection in the EU. Adult women made up almost half (44.8%) of the beneficiaries. Children accounted for almost one-third (31.8%), while adult men comprised less than a quarter (23.4%) of the total.
