President Zelenskyy announced the information on his social media.

"Today, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte is in Ukraine. During our meeting, we discussed, first and foremost, what next joint steps of ours can provide Ukraine and all of Europe with greater security and bring the real end of the war closer," Zelenskyy wrote.

He also referred to the NATO initiative known as the Prioritised Ukraine Requirements List (PURL), which provides Kyiv with access to key weapons systems. In particular, the program makes it possible for Ukraine to purchase American-made Patriot air defense systems and missiles.

"n particular, the PURL program is already operating, enabling the purchase of American weapons with partner funding. We already have $1.5 billion from European countries. This is significant. I am grateful to every partner. We are working to raise more," Zelenskyy emphasized.

Note: The Prioritised Ukraine Requirements List (PURL) is a new mechanism for providing aid to Kyiv initiated by NATO. It stipulates that, in accordance with Ukrainian requests, a priority list of weapons and ammunition will be formed and approved by NATO’s Supreme Allied Commander Europe, while funding will be provided by Alliance states or partners.

  • Defense Express, citing sources, said that such aid packages would be announced regularly, and the average cost of each will be about $500 million.
  • On August 13, Germany announced a $500 million aid package to Ukraine, including military equipment and ammunition, as part of NATO's PURL initiative.
