Most Crimeans don't perceive Russian-occupied peninsula as war zone: journalist explains why

Journalist Larysa Voloshyna says that some Crimea residents continue to wait for liberation, while the rest simply don't realize what is happening on the peninsula

She said this on Espreso TV.

"I follow my friends in the occupied Crimea. When there are explosions in Crimea, they often post photos with words about a wonderful morning and delicious coffee. That is, people are waiting for liberation. However, there are those who are not waiting for Ukraine. These people, frankly, do not know what is happening," Voloshyna said.

The journalist emphasized that residents of the occupied Crimea do not have full information about what is happening on the peninsula.

"Residents of Kerch may not know that Sevastopol is on fire and vice versa. Some residents of the occupied Crimea do not have full information about the events taking place on the peninsula. After all, the occupation authorities of Crimea always talk about the destruction of all air threats. In general, locals do not perceive Crimea as a war zone. They have absolutely no understanding of air raids. That is, everything that happens in the occupied Crimea looks more like chaotic actions," she added.

• On the evening of March 23, the Russians announced the alleged operation of air defense in the temporarily occupied Crimea. The Ukrainian Defense Forces hit large landing ships Yamal and Azov, a communications center, and several infrastructure facilities of the Russian Black Sea Fleet in Sevastopol. The Russians also report damage to transportation infrastructure.
• On March 24, the Ukrainian forces attacked with a Neptune missile the landing ship Konstantin Olshansky, which the Russians stole from Ukraine in 2014 during the annexation of Crimea. The Ukrainian military also hit the Russian reconnaissance ship Ivan Khurs.
