Russian negotiator Beseda knows US weaknesses, Kremlin trusts him - Ukrainian expert
Military expert and former SBU officer (2004-2015) Ivan Stupak spoke about Sergey Beseida, the head of the Russian technical delegation at the negotiations in Saudi Arabia
He shared his insights on the Espreso TV channel.
“What’s interesting about this man? He knows the Americans well because he once worked in the department that specializes in Americans. This is not a secret; both during the Soviet Union and after, the FSB, and the SBU have specific departments based on their specialties. For example, there is an American department that works exclusively with the Americans, a British department that focuses on the British, etc. This man worked directly in the American department. He knows a lot about the modus operandi, modus vivendi—the way Americans think and act. He knows a lot of their weaknesses and possibly specific American members of this negotiation team," he stated.
Stupak noted that after working in the American department, Beseda worked in a very specific unit — the Counterintelligence Operations Department.
"This is considered the highest level, where the best minds are put together to work on very specific, concrete tasks. For example, recruiting three or four agents, bringing them together without them knowing each other, setting them up with lovers to ensure no one suspects anything—this is a counterintelligence operation. He is indeed an expert in this, having worked many years," Stupak explained.
Stupak believes that despite the failed invasion of Ukraine, the Kremlin still trusts Beseida and considers him a valuable asset, which is why he was chosen to lead the negotiating group.
“And why was he sent to deal with the Americans? Because he knows them and knows how to communicate with them. And finally, he’s a man whom, surprisingly, the Kremlin continues to trust. Despite the failure of the Ukrainian invasion, he remains afloat. To support this idea, look at someone like Sergey Shoigu. He’s made so many mistakes in the Russian army, there’s been so much money stolen, and many failed operations in Ukraine. But he still remains. Because in the Russian Federation, the most important thing is loyalty. You can be completely incompetent, unprofessional, and ineffective, but if you’re loyal, you’ll remain in your position,” Stupak added.
