MH17 victims' families demand Russia's accountability in peace deal
MH17 victims' families insist that a reliable peace agreement is impossible without Russia acknowledging responsibility for the downing of the plane
These letters were sent to U.S. President Donald Trump and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, copies of which have been obtained by European Pravda.
“In two letters to Trump and von der Leyen earlier this month, MH17 victims' families addressed a possible peace deal on Ukraine, stating that a lasting agreement is hard to achieve without Russia acknowledging responsibility for the downing of MH17,” the article states.
The outlet notes that the victims' families have long demanded Russia acknowledge its role, apologize, and conduct a public investigation into all those involved and the causes of the plane’s downing. The Dutch government has consistently supported these demands. Now, the families believe their demands should be part of any potential peace settlement.
"Without this, there can be no lasting peace with Russia," they say.
Copies of the letters were also sent to Dutch Prime Minister Dick Schoof, parliamentary committees on foreign affairs and justice and security, and EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas.
