Macron's Putin talks make no sense after 'pigs' insult — diplomat
French President Emmanuel Macron's dialogue with Moscow won't help negotiations, since Putin will reject any proposals that don't match Russia's demands and keep pushing for Ukraine's surrender
Diplomat Oleh Shamshur stated this on Espreso TV.
"It's unclear what Emmanuel Macron hopes to achieve when he talks about restoring dialogue with Moscow. This is especially puzzling given recent statements from Putin, Ushakov, and others indicating they will reject any peace proposals that differ from their own demands—which essentially amount to Ukraine's capitulation. Furthermore, consider Putin's recent statement calling Europeans 'pigs.' What kind of constructive conversation can you have with someone who considers you a pig!? It's absurd and, in my view, counterproductive," Shamshur explained.
The diplomat emphasized that Macron's initiative to restore dialogue with Moscow will certainly not strengthen Europe's position. He stressed that this is definitely not the right step to take at this moment.
"It's hard to even imagine what format such a conversation could take. If it's a phone call, we already know Russia's position. If it means opening a new negotiation track, as Macron suggests, to prevent Trump from monopolizing the process, then this is definitely not what's needed right now. In summary, I can say that such a scenario is clearly not beneficial for the EU and will not strengthen Europe's position," he added.
On December 19, Emmanuel Macron stated that Europe would likely need to restore dialogue with Vladimir Putin in light of U.S. involvement in peace negotiations regarding Ukraine.
