Latvia donates 100 domestically produced FPV drones to Ukraine
As part of the public charity initiative UAVs for Ukrainian Armed Forces, Latvia has donated 100 FPV drones of its own production to Ukraine
This was reported by the Embassy of Ukraine in the Republic of Latvia .
The funds for purchasing the drones were raised, in part, thanks to the charity initiative of Latvia's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Baiba Braže. In May 2024, she participated in the Riga Half Marathon and called on citizens to donate for drones for the Ukrainian Armed Forces. Currently, the project, implemented by the Ukrainian Embassy in Latvia and the Latvian charity fund Ziedot.lv, has raised about 130,000 euros.
Under the coordination of the Ukrainian Embassy in Latvia, the drones will be delivered directly to two Ukrainian military units: the 21st Brigade of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and the Lut Brigade of the National Police of Ukraine.
Ukraine's Ambassador Anatolii Kutsevol stated that drones are an effective way to conduct combat operations. According to him, UAVs have been helpful since the first months of the war, allowing for the destruction of enemy armored vehicles and tanks.
"Acquiring one such drone can destroy enemy military equipment worth millions of dollars. Thus, we will help Ukrainian defenders strike Russian occupiers' personnel and equipment while also supporting Latvia's economy and local drone manufacturers," emphasized the ambassador.
- Latvian Defense Minister Andris Sprūds announced on December 28, 2024, that the country had prepared a new batch of drones for Ukraine, including more than 1,000 combat drones of various types.
