Kyiv Mayor Klitschko warns of potential Russian advance on capital
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko has said that he believes the capital has been and remains a target for Putin, conceding the city could again be targeted by Russian land forces
He spoke about this in an interview with BILD.
"Kyiv has been and remains a target for Putin, because the capital is the heart of the country," he said.
Therefore, the head of the capital does not dismiss the possibility of a new Russian army offensive on Kyiv. However, he assured that this time, the preparation for such events is significantly more extensive.
"But we are much better prepared for this than we were two years ago. If Putin makes such a decision, it will be a bloody decision," Klitschko stated.
He also emphasizes the need for better air defense for the city: "We urgently need more means of air defense, more anti-aircraft missiles!"
The article also states that Vitali Klitschko rejects any possibility of negotiations with Russia, as proposed by the leader of the parliamentary faction of the Social Democratic Party of Germany, Rolf Mützenich.
"This is the wrong approach; instead, we need greater support. We will not give Russia any territories. This cannot be a compromise," emphasized the Mayor of Kyiv.
- On March 28, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Russia could launch a new offensive in Ukraine in late May or June this year.
- On March 30, retired National Guard Major Oleksiy Hetman, a veteran of the Russian-Ukrainian war, suggested that the Russian offensive could begin in April, and that it would take a week at most for the Russians to move their troops.
