Ukraine’s Commander-in-Chief, Oleksandr Syrskyi, made the statement on Telegram.
He said Ukrainian troops have been advancing in Kursk for nine months, successfully stopping Russia from launching a new offensive in Ukraine's border regions of Sumy and Kharkiv.
Syrskyi emphasized that the buffer zone created by Ukraine’s Defense Forces in the border areas remains crucial.
“You can only defeat a numerically superior enemy through unconventional tactics. The Kursk operation was exactly that. It caught the enemy by surprise. Ukraine proved it can counterattack, strike, and push the enemy back — even on their own territory,” Syrskyi wrote.
- Ihor Lapin, special forces officer, Ukrainian Armed Forces officer, and former MP, stated that Russian forces are trying to get as close as possible to the city of Sumy so that their artillery and long-range drones can reach it.
