Kremlin turns Ukrainian corruption into weapon – DEJURE Foundation head
Mykhailo Zhernakov, co-founder and Chairman of the Board of the DEJURE Foundation, has warned that corrupt Ukrainian officials are undermining the state from within
He shared his opinions with Espreso TV.
"Slowing down processes is what our enemies seek. Unfortunately, we do have an enemy — Moscow. We even conducted a separate study in collaboration with our partners, examining how Ukrainian corruption is being weaponized, using several examples of institutions, including the now-liquidated Kyiv District Administrative Court. To date, only four of the 49 judges from this court have been dismissed. In other words, while the court has been liquidated, the judges are still part of the judicial system," noted Zhernakov.
The co-founder and chairman of the board of the DEJURE Foundation also added that it is now crucial for Ukraine to continue cleaning up the judicial system.
"We have only just begun this process, but already there have been two to four dozen decisions to dismiss individuals from this agency. There are Moscow agents in Ukraine who are directly recruited, and there are their allies — Ukrainian corrupt officials who may not wish to dismantle the Ukrainian state, but, willingly or not, contribute to its collapse from within through their actions, attacks on independent institutions, corruption, money, and bribes," Zhernakov emphasized.
Background. On December 13, 2022, Ukraine’s Verkhovna Rada passed a law to liquidate the Kyiv District Administrative Court (KDAC). The KDAC is known for making controversial decisions, such as abolishing the new Ukrainian spelling and halting the renaming process for the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (Moscow Patriarchate), among others.
