Kremlin responds to U.S. statement on potential withdrawal from Ukraine peace efforts
The Kremlin has stated that there is some progress and developments regarding the settlement of the war against Ukraine but noted "numerous complex issues" remain
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov made the statement, according to Interfax.
Peskov was responding to a request for comment on recent U.S. remarks suggesting that Washington might withdraw from the peace process if it sees no progress.
“We believe that some progress can already be acknowledged. This progress is linked to the temporary moratorium observed by Russia — a moratorium on strikes against energy infrastructure. The Russian Federation has respected this moratorium, which cannot be said about the Ukrainians,” Peskov stated.
“There have already been some developments, but of course, many difficult discussions still lie ahead,” he added.
When asked about the possibility of the U.S. pulling out of the settlement process, the spokesperson said that this question “should be addressed in Washington.”
- Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that the U.S. is prepared to abandon efforts to achieve peace in Ukraine if it becomes clear that this is an unattainable goal.
- During the agreed energy ceasefire with Ukraine, Russia has violated it more than 30 times, according to the spokesperson for the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Heorhii Tykhyi.
