Hungarian PM discusses Ukraine with Putin after meeting Trump, Kremlin confirms
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán held a phone call with Russian leader Vladimir Putin immediately following his meeting with newly-elected U.S. President Donald Trump in Florida
RIA Novosti reported this, citing a statement from the Kremlin.
The two officials reportedly discussed Ukraine and economic cooperation.
Orbán also expressed his interest in facilitating a joint search for political-diplomatic solutions to the crisis, particularly considering his contacts with various Western leaders.
Meanwhile, Putin “provided assessments of the situation's development and the destructive stance of the Kyiv regime.” According to the Kremlin, the conversation occurred at Orbán's initiative.
Orbán later posted on X that the conversation took place on the morning of December 11 and lasted at least an hour.
“These are the most dangerous weeks of the Russia-Ukraine war. We are taking every possible diplomatic step to argue in favour of a ceasefire and peace talks,” the Hungarian prime minister wrote.
