How Ukraine should respond to Trump’s post

The war will be long. Together with the EU, Ukraine can win back all of its territory. This is the main message Ukrainians should take from Zelenskyy’s meeting with Trump

This is the most supportive statement we’ve received. But should we really rejoice so much at the American president’s realization of Putin’s unreadiness for peace?

In reality, this message signals that the United States is increasingly stepping back from resolving this devastating war, shifting the responsibility for European security onto Europe itself. The U.S. no longer provides Ukraine with weapons directly, though at least they sell them, which is good. But how long will the EU and NATO have the capacity to purchase this weaponry?

And will the professionalism, and, crucially, the conscience, of the Ukrainian authorities be enough to use the funds allocated to the defense industry effectively, investing in truly powerful developments rather than squandering them on “impressive” projects run by adapted structures with flashy names but no tangible combat results?

For now, Russia is feeling the burn from the Neptune missile, launched into production by predecessors and almost scrapped by the current “peace dove” officials before the full-scale war.

Europe is providing unprecedented support to Ukraine. But this won’t last forever. That’s why Ukraine needs to rely more on its own strength. But let’s look at the government’s program and the draft budget for 2026: defense funding increases by only 1.5% (in reality, it decreases if we consider inflation and the fact that in 2025 the defense budget was already revised and increased three times).

Trump has also repeatedly, both at the UN and other platforms, threatened the EU over its use of Russian oil. Yet it is still being pumped through the Druzhba pipeline, with the contract renegotiated in December 2019, under Zelenskyy. It’s time to stop this transit! How can we demand anything from Slovakia and Hungary when we ourselves facilitate this bloody Russian export?

European Solidarity has long registered a corresponding resolution. As usual, it is not put to a vote.
