Germany delivers new military aid to Ukraine, including IRIS-T missiles, Gepard ammunition
On Thursday, April 17, the German government updated its list of military aid to Ukraine, which now includes Zuzana self-propelled howitzers, IRIS-T missiles, and various types of ammunition
Ukraine received six Bergepanzer 2 armored recovery vehicles and four Kinetic Defence Vehicles — an advanced system designed to counter drones, according to the German government's official website.
The package also includes Leopard 2 tank ammunition, three Zuzana 2 wheeled artillery systems, 27,000 rounds of 155mm artillery shells, 1,000 rounds of 122mm ammunition, four WiSENT 1 MC mine-clearing vehicles, and two additional mine ploughs.
A significant portion of the aid focuses on drone systems and infantry equipment. This includes 150 HF-1 strike drones, 10 Sonobot unmanned surface vessels, and 70 Vector reconnaissance UAVs.
Additionally, the aid package contains a large amount of infantry gear, assault rifles, and special equipment — including 92 infrared binoculars, 187 laser rangefinders, 150,000 tourniquets, and 1,300 sleeping bags.
To date, Germany has provided or pledged to provide around €28 billion in military aid to Ukraine over the coming years.
Approximately €5 billion was spent in 2023, €1.6 billion in 2022, and another €2.9 billion has been earmarked for deliveries expected between 2025 and 2028.
- On April 11, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius announced at a meeting in the Ramstein format the delivery of 4 IRIS-T air defense systems to Ukraine, along with 300 missiles for them and 30 missiles for Patriot systems.
