Many European politicians believe that it would be easier to reach an agreement with Russia if Ukraine did not resist the aggression

Political analyst Yevhen Mahda expressed this opinion on Espreso TV.

"Today, we have become more independent through our own efforts. Until February 24, 2022, we were told that we would collapse and that Russia would completely destroy us. That was the general opinion. And the fact that Ukraine has been resisting a full-scale invasion for 3.5 years is a problem for many politicians in Europe. It would be much easier for them to reach an agreement if there were no resistance. Let's be realistic. They can not help us, because it would completely contradict the logic of their development. However, it is worth acknowledging that Europe was not prepared for such a war," Mahda believes.

The political scientist expressed doubts that any NATO country would dare to send its own troops to Ukraine. According to him, even if this happens, these soldiers will definitely not be deployed near the demarcation line.

“We clearly remember the story with a million shells, when Josep Borrell said that delivering such an amount of ammunition to Ukraine would be easy. But then it turned out not to be so simple. If the Czech Republic hadn’t stepped in, we wouldn’t have received this ammunition at all. This shows how much politicians love to make promises. Just recall the so-called ‘Coalition of the Willing’ - they promise to send their troops to Ukraine, but does their legislation even allow it? By definition, even if it happens, they won’t be allowed near the front line for one simple reason: the death, injury, or trauma of a NATO soldier in the country itself would trigger a major political scandal,” he added.

  • French President Emmanuel Macron says Russia has become a long-term destabilizing force and poses a potential threat to many European countries.
  • If a peace deal goes through, 10 European countries are ready to deploy their troops to Ukraine to provide security guarantees.
