The Finnish outlet Yle reported this information on August 19.
Before coming to Uktraine, Ville Mykkänen had held various political positions, including serving as chair of the Centre Party's North Ostrobothnian youth wing.
"Even at a young age, he wanted to influence significant issues and advance justice in the world. Russia’s war of aggression focused Mykkänen's attention on the real fight for peace and freedom. He had a strong will to defend a free nation," the family statement said.
Mykkänen is the fifth Finnish military volunteer known to have died in Ukraine.
