Fico says allowing ATACMS to strike targets in Russia ‘could disrupt peace talks’
Prime Minister of Slovakia Robert Fico believes that the U.S. decision to allow Ukraine to fire long-range ATACMS missiles at Russian territory is ‘aimed at disrupting peace talks’
He stated this in an address on Facebook.
Fico wrote that those who support the decision of U.S. President Joe Biden (allowing Ukraine to use ATACMS to strike targets in Russia - ed.) are allegedly supporting the outbreak of World War III.
Fico believes that Biden authorized the use of ATACMS against targets in Russia ‘with a clear goal - to completely disrupt or delay peace talks’.
The Slovakian prime minister instructed Slovak Foreign Minister Juraj Blanar and Defence Minister Robert Kaliniak not to support the U.S. decision in any international forum or in any way.
‘This is an unprecedented escalation of tensions,’ Fico said.
He also expressed surprise at how quickly some European countries supported the U.S. decision, and said that for Slovakia, as a neighbor of Ukraine, ‘it is extremely important that there is peace there’.
‘Those who want to see the war in Ukraine continue are harming national and state interests,’ he said.
