“Everything is black, animals are concussed”: Ukrainian officer describes devastation of Serebryansky Forest
Rostyslav Yashchyshyn, a senior lieutenant and spokesperson for the 63rd Separate Mechanized Brigade of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, mentioned that while wildlife in the Serebryansky Forest has decreased, drones continue to capture images of large rare birds, roe deer, foxes, wild boars, and hares
He shared the information on Espreso TV.
"The Serebryansky Forest is called by different names – the Forest of Wonders or the Black Forest. It’s called the Black Forest because it’s so burned that it seems there is not a single surviving tree. Once, this forest was the main ‘lungs of Donbas.’ The Donbas area isn’t very forested, but Serebryansky Forest is located in the Lyman sector.
Of course, there is very little wildlife left, but our drones still spot rare large birds, roe deer, foxes, boars, and hares. Sadly, these animals are concussed. It seems they don’t really understand what’s happening, and some lose their fear of people, walking from one trench to another," commented Rostyslav Yashchyshyn, spokesperson for the 63rd Separate Mechanized Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Yashchyshyn concluded that the ecological situation is critical. However, this is typical of the Russians, as they leave only ruins behind in any war or on any territory.
- On March 28, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that 116 combat engagements were recorded over the past 24 hours. In the Lyman sector, the Russians attacked 16 times, attempting to break through the Ukrainian defense near Nadiya, Yampolivka, and towards Hrekivka, Nove, Novomykhailivka, and Zelena Dolyna.
