
European leaders invited to Kyiv on May 9 to counter Putin's Moscow parade
The Ukrainian government has invited EU leaders to Kyiv on May 9 as a show of diplomatic strength against the annual military parade led by Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin in Moscow
Politico reported the information.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha on Monday, April 14, extended the invitation to his European Union counterparts during a meeting in Luxembourg, urging them to "show our unity and resolve in the face of the biggest aggression in Europe since the Second World War."
Separately, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy would like to host the leaders of the Coalition of the Willing on May 9 and determine with them security guarantees for Ukraine after a possible ceasefire with Russia is agreed upon, Sybiha added.
The venue of this meeting was not specified. However, two EU diplomats, who wished to remain anonymous, reported that discussions are underway regarding a possible visit to Ukraine in early May by heads of state, including future German Chancellor Friedrich Merz.
The Russian dictator has invited the leaders of Israel, China, Brazil, Slovakia and Serbia to join him in Moscow for celebrations marking the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II, Russian media reported. The Russian dictator has not invited the United States or most EU member states.
