
EU ambassadors approve 17th package of sanctions against Russia
On Wednesday, May 14, European Union ambassadors approved the 17th package of sanctions against Russia, along with additional restrictions
Radio Liberty correspondent Rikard Jozwiak first reported the information.
“EU ambassadors just gave green light to the 17th sanctions package on Russia,” he said.
According to him, the ambassadors also approved additional sanctions against Russia for human rights violations, hybrid interference around the world, and the spread of chemical weapons.
European Pravda also confirmed this information, citing a diplomat from one of the key EU states who is familiar with the details of the meeting.
According to the diplomat, the sanctions target Russia’s “shadow fleet,” with nearly 200 vessels, including oil tankers, coming under restrictions. The EU also approved sanctions against around 30 new companies involved in circumventing existing measures.
The diplomat stated that the EU has also approved 75 new individual sanctions against persons and entities linked to Russia’s military-industrial complex.
French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot stated on BFM TV that the EU will now begin working on additional, tougher sanctions in coordination with the U.S.
