Estonia to supply Ukraine with Mistral SAMs and missiles
On Tuesday, June 11, Estonia announced it would supply to Ukraine launchers and missiles for the Mistral SAM
Estonia's Ministry of Defence reported the information.
"Ukraine urgently needs air defence to counter Russia's brutal aggression, and it is in Estonia's security interests to contribute to this cause together with its allies. We have designed the assistance package in such a way that it will be of maximum benefit to Ukraine without jeopardising the combat capability of the Estonian defence forces and so that we can resume the necessary supplies as soon as possible," said Estonian Defence Minister Hanno Pevkur.
For security reasons, the Estonian Defence Ministry does not specify how many SAMs Ukraine will receive.
For reference. Mistral is a Tranch-developed modern SAM designed for destroying helicopters and aircraft. Mistral is available in both portable versions (MANPADS) and for use on launch platforms for vehicles, ships and helicopters. It has a range of up to 6 km and is designed to defend against relatively low-flying aircraft and helicopters.
- Earlier, Tuuli Duneton, Vice Chancellor for Defence Policy at the Estonian Ministry of Defence, said that the reserve of weapons that could be sent to Ukraine had almost been exhausted.
