Electronic warfare no longer effective against Russian drones — volunteer
Russian drones are constantly evolving, making electronic warfare (EW) systems less effective. The only real protection against Russian drones is staying alert and having weapons
Oleksandr Humaniuk, head of the charitable organization Rose on the Hand and member of an evacuation group, stated this on Hromadske Radio.
According to him, despite the successes of the Defense Forces in Kupiansk, volunteers and emergency services still do not enter the city. The volunteer explains: you can enter the city, but then you have to flee from five or even ten drones at once, which is almost impossible. The number of unmanned aerial vehicles in Kupiansk is "insane," the volunteer emphasized.
According to him, even military personnel in this area do not actively move around by vehicle, even though they have EW equipment. They mostly travel on foot.
"EW is not a cure-all. There are drones with fiber optics [which EW systems cannot jam]. The Russians constantly change the frequencies [on which drones operate]. Because of this, we have to modify the tools that detect the presence of drones and install new chips," Oleksandr Humaniuk explained.
In his view, the best defense against drones is vigilance and weapons like pump-action shotguns or other shotguns. "That's the only thing that can protect you. EW systems, unfortunately, are no longer a cure-all," the volunteer stated.
According to him, due to the significant intensification of drone attacks, more people want to leave the Vovchansk direction: Russian drones are flying deeper and deeper. In addition, there is minor Russian advancement being recorded there. Added to this are unfavorable weather conditions, lack of communication, and absence of utilities.
Also, the number of people wanting to leave the Kupiansk area has increased again. Previously, amid Ukrainian military successes, the pace of evacuation in this area had slowed, but now it has begun to increase.
People are also leaving from the Borivska and Velykobirlutska communities.
