Putin rushes, throws all possible resources at war: diplomat Bryza explains why
Former US advisor Matthew Bryza believes Putin aims to achieve significant results at the front before the US presidential elections
He expressed this opinion on Espreso TV.
Matthew Bryza explained that US presidential elections are a crucial date for Putin. He is not certain if they constitute a strict deadline, but Putin hopes that if Donald Trump wins, Ukraine will be forced to negotiate with Russia and accept its terms. From Putin's perspective, Trump's presidency would significantly reduce US support for Ukraine, giving Russia a chance to avoid defeat. However, Bryza also noted that there are internal deadlines driving Putin to rush and deploy all his resources to the war. The exact situation within Russia remains unknown.
The diplomat noted that the American and European defense sectors are gradually increasing their capabilities.
“Right now Russia is producing more artillery shells and basic weaponry than the United States and the EU combined. I mean, something like, I don't know, three or four times as much. So the US and the EU have let their defense industries grow smaller as we invested in our non-military defense, but that's starting to change. For the first time now, German companies are saying, “Oh, yeah, we should manufacture military items, weapons, and artillery shells,” whereas in the past, it was always sort of a political taboo for German companies to stay away from the military because of Germany's Nazi past. So, slowly US factories and European factories are starting to produce more and more weaponry,” he added.
