Democrats in U.S. Congress press Trump administration to boost Ukraine support
Representatives of the Democratic Party in the U.S. House of Representatives have introduced a pro-Ukraine bill, aiming to pressure the Trump administration
Reuters reported the information, citing its own sources.
According to a copy of the bill seen by the agency, Representative Greg Meeks, the top Democrat on the House Foreign Affairs Committee, introduced the Ukraine Support Act, which would provide funding for Ukraine's security and recovery, as well as impose tough sanctions on Russia.
As journalists report, efforts in Congress reflect growing bipartisan concern over Ukraine’s fate, as Donald Trump has taken a “more conciliatory stance” toward Moscow.
Congressional aides who helped draft the bill said their goal was to influence negotiations on any Ukraine-related legislation that may ultimately be passed by Congress.
"This bill obviously will be part of the legislative conversation," one said.
- American leader Donald Trump accused Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and former U.S. President Joe Biden of “allowing the war to begin.”
