DeepState claims loss of two villages near Ocheretyne, Ukrainian General Staff does not confirm

The Ukrainian military OSINT investigation project DeepState has made a statement about the loss of the villages of Semenivka and Solovyove in Donetsk region by the Ukrainian forces, the villages are reportedly controlled by the Russian troops

This is stated in a statement on the project's Telegram channel.

"The enemy occupied Semenivka and Solovyove, and also advanced in Novokalynove, Ivanivske, and Kyslivka," the DeepState authors informed on the night of 26-27 April 2024.

The villages of Semenivka and Solovyove are located south of the village of Ocheretyne in the Pokrovsk district of Donetsk region, through which Russians are now trying to break through to the strategically important towns of Pokrovsk and Myrnohrad. All this is happening northwest of the occupied Avdiivka.

In turn, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in its report on the situation at the front as of the morning of April 27 does not confirm DeepState's statement about Semenivka and Solovyove.

"In the Avdiivka sector, our defenders repelled 29 attacks in the areas of Arkhangelske, Keramik, Ocheretyne, Semenivka, Umanske, Kalynove," the General Staff claimed at 10:00 Kyiv time.

Ocheretyne: occupied by Russia or not?

It is worth noting that the daily updated map of hostilities from DeepState also shows the village of Ocheretyne as almost completely occupied by the enemy. However, the General Staff also disagrees with this statement.

Serhiy Zgurets, a leading military expert at Espreso, director of the media and consulting company Defense Express, calls the situation around Ocheretyne the most difficult on the frontline.

"The dynamics of the fighting there is even greater than around Chasiv Yar in terms of the number of clashes. It seems that Chasiv Yar has faded into the background for now, but when we talk about Ocheretyne, it is an area where the enemy managed to advance 4-6 km in a fairly short period of time. Advances towards Ocheretyne continue to have a significant impact on the frontline, because Ocheretyne is a hill that allows us to keep a significant amount of area under both visual and fire control - the enemy understands this," he explains.

"The lion's share of the city is under enemy control, our troops are also there, so the fighting is extremely active, but in addition to advancing to Ocheretyne, the enemy is trying to expand this incursion," Zgurets said on the evening of April 26.

According to the expert, the General Staff will investigate why the 115th Brigade, which has now been replaced by the 100th Brigade, failed to hold its positions there.

For their part, Zgurets said, "the Russians are beginning to redeploy the 15th Peacekeeping Brigade, which was withdrawn from Nagorno-Karabakh, to this area."
