Crimea is marker of world order – Mejlis member Bariiev
Mejlis member and head of the Crimean Tatar Resource Center Eskender Bariiev warned against a truce favoring Russia and urged strong defense of Ukraine's territorial integrity under international law
He said this live on the Espreso TV channel.
"On one hand, the U.S., represented by Trump, is doing everything to stop the active phase of the war. Trump needs to show his voters that he’s delivered on promises. But a truce isn’t real peace. Recognizing the occupied territories of Ukraine — especially Crimea — is very dangerous for us, because it gives Russia the chance to restart and escalate its aggression. The Kremlin only wants a truce to regroup and continue the war," Bariiev said.
According to the head of the Crimean Tatar Resource Center, Europe currently holds a firm stance against recognizing Crimea as Russian and rejects such claims.
"Crimea isn’t just some territory taken by Russia. It’s a marker of the world order that was shaped after World War II, and that order can be broken. If that happens, global chaos could follow. We have to firmly stick to our position: defending world order, Ukraine’s territorial integrity and sovereignty, and actively using international law to protect the rights of indigenous peoples," Bariiev stressed.
- The Russian occupying forces continue to fortify their positions in temporarily occupied Crimea, fearing they may lose the annexed peninsula.
