Chinese Ambassador to Switzerland denies Kremlin support and arms supply to Russia
Chinese Ambassador to Switzerland, Wang Shiting, calls criticism unfair regarding Beijing's assistance to Russia in the war against Ukraine and assures China does not supply weapons to either side
He said this in an interview with the local publication NZZ.
"The criticism of China is unwarranted and highly unfair. Since the beginning of the conflict, China has consistently supported peaceful negotiations," emphasized the ambassador.
He noted that Chinese leader Xi Jinping had several phone calls with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Discussions also took place with the leaders of the United States Joe Biden, France's Emmanuel Macron, and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.
"China has been actively promoting peace talks since the beginning of the crisis. We very much hope that peace will be restored in the near future and an objective solution will be found quickly," Wang Shiting added.
The Chinese ambassador also reminded the head of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Wang Yi, that his country adheres to a political decision, promotes peaceful negotiations, doesn't add fuel to the fire, and doesn't profit from it. According to him, China does not sell lethal weapons to parties involved in the conflict.
"China will continue to play a constructive role in bringing an early end to the conflict and restoring peace in Ukraine and will not stop until there is a glimmer of hope," the Chinese ambassador to Switzerland emphasized.
