Chasiv Yar isn't only politically important: Ukrainian major general on capturing town by May 9

Major General Serhii Kryvonos emphasizes the strategic importance of Chasiv Yar, which could be key to the Russian army's further advance in the Donetsk region

He said this on Espreso TV.

"We clearly understand that the capture of Chasiv Yar is not only a purely political nuance in the wake of the inauguration of the Russian president, but, first of all, it is a threat to our further advancement in the direction of Kostiantynivka-Kramatorsk-Sloviansk, where there are practically four villages from Chasic Yar to Kramatorsk and Kramatorsk will be there," Krivonos said.

According to the reserve major general, Russia will make every effort to break through this particular settlement in the Donetsk region. At the same time, the Ukrainian Defense Forces will work to prevent the Russian advance.

"But we should not disregard other areas of the frontline, because the Russians can accumulate resources and, as a result of rapid deployment and probing the weaknesses of our defense, react quickly enough in other areas. We see how threatening the situation is in the Zaporizhzhia sector near Robotyne, and we should not dismiss other areas. The task for our intelligence is to effectively, quickly and with a huge margin of safety detect possible enemy advances in other areas, so we should not forget about other areas looking only at Chasiv Yar," he summarized.
