Canada will support Ukraine with a new military aid package, financial assistance, a grant to bolster energy security
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced this during the "Support Ukraine" summit in Kyiv.
The military aid package includes:
- 25 LAV II infantry fighting vehicles
- 2 armored combat support vehicles (Ukrainian troops will soon train on them in Germany)
- A landing system for F-16 fighter jets
- 4 F-16 flight simulators, to be delivered in the coming months
- Millions of rounds of ammunition, military gear, and first-aid kits
Additionally, Canada will provide the first installment of a $5 billion CAD aid package using profits from frozen Russian assets. A grant will also be allocated to support Ukraine's energy security following Russian attacks on its infrastructure.
During his speech, Trudeau reaffirmed Canada's unwavering support for Ukraine:
He stated that peace could not be achieved without Ukrainians at the negotiating table and that this was exactly what Canada was focused on.
- Since the start of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Canada has frozen over $457 million CAD in Russian assets (equivalent to over $350 million USD).
