Russian propagandist Kiselyov faces new charges for urging Ukraine’s seizure, justifying war crimes
Ukraine's Security Service has documented new crimes committed by sanctioned Russian propagandist Dmitry Kiselyov, who promotes Russia’s armed aggression and calls for the seizure of Ukraine
Ukrainian Security Service press center reported the information.
As noted, the suspect is part of Russian dictator Vladimir Putin’s media pool and remains the host of one of the Kremlin’s main propaganda shows — Vesti Nedeli on the central Russian state channel Russia 1.
For example, Kiselyov regularly spreads false information about Ukraine’s internal affairs and its international partnerships. He also tries to justify Russia’s war against Ukraine, calls for the overthrow of Ukraine’s constitutional system, and urges the occupation of its territory.
The SBU points out that these are not Kiselyov’s first offenses. His subversive activity in Ukraine has been documented since the start of the full-scale invasion.
In March 2022, Security Service investigators already notified him in absentia of suspicion for encroaching on Ukraine’s territorial integrity and sovereignty.
Now, based on additional evidence and expert analysis, the SBU has officially informed Dmytro Kiselyov in absentia of a new set of charges under four articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine:
- actions aimed at forcibly changing or overthrowing the constitutional order or seizing power, committed using mass media;
- violation of Ukraine’s territorial integrity and inviolability, resulting in deaths or other severe consequences;
- war propaganda;
- justification, denial, or legitimization of Russia’s armed aggression against Ukraine, and glorification of its participants.
Since the propagandist is hiding in Russia, Ukraine is carrying out comprehensive measures to bring him to justice for crimes against the state.
- Last year, the Supreme Anti-Corruption Court upheld an administrative claim by Ukraine’s Ministry of Justice against the Russian TV host and propagandist.
