UK intel: Ukrainian strike on Russia’s Engels airbase marks biggest success of 2025
UK intelligence has analyzed the successful strike by Ukrainian Defense Forces on the Russian strategic aviation airbase Engels-2 in Russia’s Saratov region on the night of March 20
The UK intelligence stated this in its report on March 25.
UK intelligence noted that on the night of March 20, the Ukrainian Defense Forces used an unmanned aerial vehicle to attack an ammunition depot at the Engels-2 strategic aviation airbase.
It is almost certain that the targeted site stored aviation munitions used in strikes against Ukraine, British intelligence reported.
The analysis suggests that the losses were significant and are likely to disrupt airstrike operations from the base in the short term.
Russian aircraft were most likely dispersed to surrounding airfields, which has become standard practice in response to Ukrainian deep strikes, intelligence officers noted.
The UK also emphasized that this was Ukraine's most successful attack on a Russian ammunition depot in 2025.
- A powerful secondary detonation, occurring hours after the Ukrainian attack, damaged dozens of buildings near the Engels airbase, indicating what might have exploded.
