In the summer of 2024, the Lukashenko regime dispatched a massive shipment of missiles for anti-aircraft missile systems (SAMS) from Belarus to an ammunition depot in Toropets, Tver region, Russia

The loading, transit, and unloading were done in phases under "extreme secrecy," according to the independent Union of Railway Workers of Belarus.

“Various sources confirm that on September 18, 2024, Ukrainian drones struck the 107th arsenal of the Russian Defense Ministry. Three days later, another strike targeted the 23rd arsenal of the Main Missile and Artillery Directorate, located 16 km south of the first site near Toropets. Just before these attacks, missiles from the 1562nd Detached Anti-Aircraft Repair Base (military unit 64608) were delivered to Staraya Toropa station, adjacent to the 23rd arsenal,” the railway workers stated.

The shipment included: “94 wagons loaded with missile systems for anti-aircraft purposes, all in packaging containers, plus 5 additional cars for security and escort (1 covered car for each convoy).”

The shipment took place "between late July and early August 2024," they noted.

The total load was delivered by 5 separate trains, each carrying the classified “explosive materials (BM)” — Class 1 Dangerous Goods.

“The distance between the origin and destination stations was 530 km, with a delivery time of 3 days. Each wagon was loaded with 20 to 30 tons of cargo,” emphasized the Union of Railway Workers of Belarus.

Given the 94 wagons, the total cargo weight was approximately 1,880 to 2,820 tons.

"Additionally, our sources indicate that more shipments were planned for the Staraya Toropa station (the 23rd arsenal), but these have been halted, likely due to the Ukrainian drone attacks on the targeted arsenals," the Belarusian railway workers added.

  • The attacks on military depots near Russian Toropets were carried out by Ukrainian drones.
  • As Ukraine's presidential spokesperson Serhiy Nikiforov remarked: “The Russians will be the first to learn when the West approves strikes deep into Russian territory with missiles produced by the U.S. and Europe.”
