75 combat clashes occur at front, most in Pokrovsk sector - Ukraine's General Staff

Since the beginning of the day, 75 combat engagements have taken place at the front, with almost a third of all attacks concentrated in the Pokrovsk sector

The Ukrainian Armed Forces' General Staff reported this as of 4:00 p.m on August 16.

Invading Russian forces used aviation and artillery to hit the border areas of the Sumy region. In particular, the areas around the settlements of Fotovyzh, Stara Huta, Novooleksandrivka, and Druzhba came under artillery fire. The Russians fired from multiple rocket launchers at Bachevsk. They also conducted air strikes near Stepka, Miropillia, Mala Rybitsa, and Krasnopillia.

Frontline situation 

In the Kharkiv sector, Russian forces stormed the Ukrainian troops’ positions eight times in the areas of Vovchansk and Lypky. The battle is still ongoing in Vovchansk.

Russia attacked Ukrainian positions in the Kupyansk sector seven times. Near Hlushkivka, Kruhliakivka, and Andriivka, the attacks were repelled by the Ukrainian Defense Forces. The attack towards Lozova is still ongoing. There is a battle going on. The invaders launched two air strikes with guided bombs on Kupyansk-Vuzlove.

In the Lyman sector, the Russian army attacked in the areas of Makiivka, Nevske, and Torske. Since the beginning of the day there have been six combat engagements in this sector, and the battle near Makiivka is still ongoing. The situation is under control. The areas of Osynove and Druzheliubivka came under Russian bombardment - in total, the Russians used eight multiple rocket launchers.

The Russian forces are trying to break through defense in the Siversk sector, but are receiving a tough rebuff from Ukrainian soldiers. Near Verkhniokamianske, Spirne, and Pereizne, the invaders tried to push Ukrainian units from their positions seven times. All attacks were stopped.

In the Kramatorsk sector, the Russians made three assault attacks near Hryhorivka and Chasiv Yar. Two of these engagements are ongoing.

The number of Russian attacks in the Toretsk sector increased to eight. The enemy is attacking near Toretsk and Bila Hora, where the Ukrainian Armed Forces repelled two assaults. In the areas of New York, Zalizne, and Nelipivka, six combat engagements have taken place. The Russian aircraft bombed Toretsk, and the invaders also shelled Dachne and New York with unguided aerial missiles.

The Pokrovsk sector witnessed the highest number of combat engagements. Since the beginning of the day, the Russian troops have made 23 attempts to push Ukrainian defenders from their positions in the areas of Vozdvyzhenka, Vodiane, Novohrodivka, Hrodivka, Zhelanne, Kalynivka, Ptychke and attacked towards Zelene Pole. The defense forces held back the attack and repelled 17 enemy attacks. Six battles are still ongoing. Oleksandropil was hit three times.

In the Kurakhove sector, Russia attacked Ukrainian units nine times since the beginning of the day. They tried to advance near Krasnohorivka, Heorhiivka, Oleksandrivka, and Kostiantynivka.

In the Vremivka sector, one enemy assault towards Kostiantynivka was repelled. Russian unguided aerial missiles exploded near Vuhledar and Novodonetske - the invaders were firing from Ka-52 helicopter gunships.

In the vicinity of Mala Tokmachka in the Orikhiv sector, the Russians tried to advance once unsuccessfully, but were fiercely repulsed.

The situation is similar in the Prydniprovskyi sector, where one enemy attack was repelled.

In other areas, the situation has not changed much.

  • Over the last day, August 15, 144 combat engagements took place at the front. The situation was most intense in the Pokrovsk sector, where Ukrainian troops repelled 41 attacks.
