589 civilians killed in Ukraine this summer due to Russian aggression - UN
During the summer months of 2024, from June 1 to August 31, a total of 589 civilians in Ukraine lost their lives due to full-scale Russian aggression - an increase of 45% compared to the spring of this year
This information comes from a report by the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights.
In addition to the fatalities, 2,685 civilians were injured during this period. Notably, 89% of the victims - 518 killed and 2,411 injured - were on government-controlled territory in Ukraine.
The report specifies that among those killed, there were 324 men, 238 women, 14 girls, and 13 boys. For injuries, the numbers include 1,353 men, 1,155 women, 104 boys, and 73 girls.
The UN emphasized that Russian armed groups continued systematic attacks on critical energy infrastructure during this time, which directly impacts the civilian population.
July was highlighted as "the deadliest month for civilians in Ukraine since October 2022," primarily due to a large-scale coordinated missile attack by Russia on July 8, targeting various locations across Ukraine.
Additionally, the report indicates that the Russian army conducted at least four major attacks on Ukrainian energy facilities this summer.
