173 skirmishes erupt on front: Russian troops focus on Kurakhove direction

Over the past day, there have been 173 combat clashes between Ukrainian and Russian forces, with Russian troops focusing their heaviest attacks in the Pokrovsk and Kurakhove directions

This was reported by the General Staff of Ukraine’s Armed Forces as of 08:00 on September 16.

Russian forces launched missile strikes on Ukrainian positions and populated areas, using one missile, 77 airstrikes, and dropping 117 guided bombs. Additionally, there were 3,888 artillery attacks, including 114 from multiple launch rocket systems (MLRS).

Russian airstrikes targeted 19 settlements across Ukraine.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian forces responded, striking 15 concentrations of Russian personnel, weapons, and equipment.

Frontline breakdown

Kharkiv direction: Russian troops attempted to storm Vovchansk but were repelled. Russian aircraft hit civilian infrastructure in Kharkiv and Ruska Lozova.

Kupyansk direction: There were 20 Russian assaults. Ukrainian forces repelled attacks around Synkivka, Petropavlivka, Kolisnykivka, Hlushkivka, Kruhlyakivka, and Lozova.

Lyman direction: Russian forces attacked 24 times, targeting defenses near Druzheliubivka, Kovalivka, Tverdokhlibove, Nevske, Makiivka, Terny, and Novosadove.

Siversk direction: Ukrainian defenders stopped 12 assaults near Bilohorivka, Verkhniokamianske, Vyimka, and Ivano-Daryivka. Russian aircraft were active over Siversk, Mykolaivka, and Pereizne.

Kramatorsk direction: Russian troops attacked three times near Stupochky and Kurdiumivka.

Toretsk direction: Backed by air support, Russian forces launched 16 attacks around Druzhba, Nelipivka, Toretsk, and Shcherbynivka.

Pokrovsk direction: Ukrainian defenders held back 36 Russian assaults aimed at Vozdvyzhenka, Novotoretsk, Zelene Pole, Novooleksandrivka, Hrodivka, Novohrodivka, Marynivka, and Mykhailivka. The heaviest fighting occurred near Hrodivka and Novohrodivka.

Kurakhove direction: Ukrainian forces fended off 42 Russian attacks, with the fiercest fighting near Kostiantynivka and Heorhiivka. In addition, Russian troops attacked in the direction of Ukrainsk, Dolynivka, Katerynivka, Selydove, and Zhelanne Druhe.

Vremivka direction: Russian troops launched 10 assaults, using both attack and bomber aircraft, targeting Vodiane, Katerynivka, Solodke, and Makarivka. They involved attack and bomber aircraft.

Orikhiv direction: Russian forces attacked toward Novodarivka.

Kherson direction: Russian troops made eight attempts to push Ukrainian units from their positions but were repelled with losses.

There are no signs of Russian offensive groups forming along the Belarusian border.

Along the border with Chernihiv and Sumy, Russian forces continue using artillery and aviation to strike Ukrainian settlements.

In the Kursk region, Ukrainian troops are inflicting heavy losses on Russian manpower and equipment, degrading their offensive capability.

  • In the last 24 hours, Russian forces lost an additional 1,060 soldiers on Ukrainian soil. Ukrainian forces also destroyed multiple pieces of enemy equipment.
