The press service of the 14th UAV Regiment reported this to Espreso.

In early summer 2024, the 14th Separate UAV Regiment successfully defeated the latest Russian radar system, Niobium-SV, operating in the Kharkiv sector. Details of the operation could not be made public earlier due to the threat to operational security.

14th UAV regiment hits Russian Niobium-SV radar

The Niobium-SV radar is a modern three-coordinate radar system operating in the meter range. It is designed to monitor the air situation: detect aerodynamic and ballistic targets, recognize them and identify sources of radio interference. It began to be delivered to Russian air defense units only in 2016, and its cost is estimated at $100 million.

“On paper, this radar can track objects moving at speeds up to 1,500 meters per second and simultaneously track up to 300 targets. However, this did not save it from being destroyed by experimental UAVs of the 14th Separate Regiment,” the statement says.

According to the regiment, this is the first ever recorded and confirmed destruction of the Niobium-SV.

About the 14th Regiment

The 14th Separate UAV Regiment within the Unmanned Systems Forces is the first and only unit in the world to operate almost all existing unmanned aerial systems. The military inflict damage on the enemy both at the tactical level and deep into its territory.

The regiment conducts reconnaissance and strike operations along the entire front line and supports other units of the Defense Forces during key operations. “We are at the forefront of progress, constantly looking for new effective ways to use various unmanned systems, and conducting complex operations to destroy important strategic targets in Russia,” the statement said.
