Russia tries to regain lost ground in Zaporizhzhia sector – Ukraine’s General Staff

Ukrainian Armed Forces launched 7 airstrikes on Russian military positions over the day

Moreover, Ukrainian defenders destroyed one reconnaissance UAV of operational and tactical level.

In their turn, missile and artillery units destroyed 6 artillery pieces at firing positions and an enemy electronic warfare station over the course of the day.

Russian forces launched 40 airstrikes, about 46 MLRS attacks against Ukraine during the day

In addition, during the day, the Russian troops launched a massive missile and air strike on the territory of Ukraine, using 3 Kalibr sea-launched cruise missiles, 5 Iskander-K land-based cruise missiles, 4 Kh-22 cruise missiles, 7 Oniks cruise missiles, as well as 19 Shahed attack UAVs.

Ukrainian air defense destroyed 2 Kalibr cruise missiles, 3 Iskander-K ground-launched cruise missiles and 13 Shahed attack UAVs.

Invading Russian forces are attacking in the Kupiansk, Lyman, Bakhmut, Avdiivka and Marinka sectors, with 20 combat engagements taking place over the last day.

Near the state Ukrainian border with Russia and Belarus, the situation hasn't changed significantly, and no enemy offensive groups have been detected. 

At the same time, the Russian army continued shelling the entire border line with mortars and artillery: over 20 settlements in the Chernihiv, Sumy, and Kharkiv regions were attacked. 

Russian attacks in other Ukrainian regions

• In the Kupiansk direction, 8 settlements of the Kharkiv region came under artillery shelling. 
• In the Lyman direction, 7 settlements in the Luhansk and Donetsk regions came under Russian fire. 
• In the Bakhmut direction, over 10 localities in the Donetsk region were attacked by the invading Russian forces. 
• In the Avdiivka direction, over 10 settlements in the Donetsk region were attacked. 
• In the Marinka direction, over 10 settlements in the Donetsk region came under shelling. 
• In the Shakhtarsk direction, over 5 localities in the Donetsk region were shelled. 
• In the Zaporizhzhia and Kherson directions, over 25 towns and villages were subjected to numerous attacks by the occupying Russian army. 

At the same time, the Ukrainian Defense Forces continue offensive operations in the Melitopol and Berdiansk sectors, consolidating their positions, inflicting artillery fire on the enemy targets identified, and conducting counter-battery operations.

• On the night of July 20, Russia attacked a number of regions in southern and eastern Ukraine: an administrative building was destroyed in Odesa, 4 people were injured; a fire broke out in a residential building in Mykolaiv, killing at least 2 and injuring at least 19 people.
