Russia to ramp up information warfare with new PSYOP units, Ukraine's intel says
Russia is increasing the number of special information and psychological operations units within its armed forces
Ukraine's Defense Intelligence reported the information.
According to intelligence, special “information influence” units have been established, notably within the 3rd and 51st Combined Arms Armies of the Russian Armed Forces. To staff these newly created units, the Russian government introduced a separate group of military specialties called "Information Warfare" last April.
PSYOP specialists are trained at the Military Academy of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces and the Mozhaisky Military Space Academy. Their movement between military units is strictly prohibited without prior approval from the military district headquarters.
The Defense Intelligence of Ukraine emphasized, "The expansion of information influence units within the Russian military structure signals the enemy's intention to escalate information and psychological attacks against Ukraine, our Security and Defense Forces, and Ukrainian society."
- Fake accusations against Ukrainian military intelligence are being disseminated through Armenian information channels, particularly on Telegram, alleging that Ukraine is trying to provoke fighting between Azerbaijan and Armenia.
