Police officer dies in hospital after Russian attack on Kherson

At about 10 a.m. on October 2, law enforcement officers evacuated a man from the scene of the shelling, but two people were injured. Later local officials reported that one of them died during the surgery

Oleksandr Prokudin, the head of the Kherson Regional Military Administration, reported this. 

As of 3:53 p.m., it became known that a policeman who was seriously wounded while saving a civilian during the enemy shelling of Kherson died.

"Doctors did everything possible to save the man's life. However, the injuries were too severe, and the law enforcement officer's heart stopped on the operating table," Prokudin said.

Roman Mrochko, head of the Kherson City Military Administration, said that the law enforcement officer and his colleague were injured while evacuating a man from the site of a shelling by the Russian army at about 10:00 a.m.

In the morning, Russian troops launched an attack on the village of Zolota Balka in the Kherson region. A 59-year-old local resident was injured and subsequently hospitalized.

Additionally, Russian forces carried out another attack on Kherson during the morning hours. According to Roman Mrachko, the head of the Kherson City Military Administration, the city was targeted near a transport infrastructure facility.

As per Prokudin, they fired upon the Kherson transport company at approximately 10:00 am. According to preliminary information, this attack resulted in injuries to four people, with two of them in serious condition. 

Ukraine's Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko reported that Russia had shelled Kherson with artillery.

"During the morning shelling and amid continuous explosions, Rapid Reaction Corps (National Police unit - ed.) rescued a civilian whose leg was torn off. The victim has been transported to receive medical care. His condition is critical," he wrote.

Klymenko also added that a patrol police car came under fire, and two policemen were injured. According to him, the blow was so strong that it pierced the armor. The patrol policemen were hospitalized, one of them is in extremely severe condition. 

The fourth victim is also known to be receiving medical treatment. His injuries are not serious.

The head of the Kherson City Military Administration also released a video with the consequences of the Russian terrorist attack on residential areas of Kherson.

Earlier, the Kherson Regional Prosecutor's Office reported the attack on Kherson’s residential area.

According to the investigation, on October 1, at about 11:40 pm, the Russian military once again shelled residential areas of Kherson. 

Due to artillery fire, a private house caught fire. 

A 13-year-old girl reportedly sustained moderate injuries, and her sister, aged 12, was diagnosed with an acute stress reaction due to the shelling. Their mother also sustained shrapnel wounds. The victims were in their home during the shelling. 

All night and in the morning of October 2, Russian forces were shelling Kerson’s central part.

In particular, the Kherson City Council reports that Russian troops launched the shelling from the temporarily occupied territories.

Private and multi-apartment buildings, 2 educational institutions, a civilian infrastructure facility, a business premises and a church were damaged.

The shelling caused several fires.

Prosecutors are taking all possible and appropriate measures to document war crimes committed by the Russian armed forces.

Under the procedural supervision of the Kherson District Prosecutor's Office, a pre-trial investigation was initiated in the criminal proceedings on the violation of the laws and customs of war (Part 1 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
