Russia stopping operations at Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant will make radiation disaster more likely - Energoatom
Russian occupiers threaten to stop operations at the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant. NAEC Energoatom emphasized that if Russian occupiers shut down Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, it will make a disaster involving radiation leaks more likely
This was reported by Energoatom.
According to the press service of the department, Russians continue to lie to the world about the shelling of the ZNPP by the Ukrainian military and declare: "The issue of putting the 5th and 6th power units into "cold reserve" may be considered, which will lead to the shutdown of the plant."
"Due to the disconnection of the ZNPP generators from the Ukrainian power system, they will not be able to be used for their own fuel cooling needs in the event of a power outage at the station. This will bring a possible scenario of a radiation disaster at the largest nuclear power plant in Europe - the Zaporizhzhia NPP," - said in a statement from Energoatom.
They note that Russian occupiers are interfering in the process of managing the nuclear facility, which is already a danger to the operation of the ZNPP. They add that Russians want to disconnect the ZANP from the energy system of Ukraine and connect the plant to Crimea.
"But when it has no connection with the Ukrainian energy system, it will go into blackout mode. All this will make it possible to connect the ZANP to the Russian energy system. This is how nuclear terrorism is carried out. And the Russians terrorize and blackmail not only Ukraine, but also the entire civilized world, step by step destroying the possibilities of protecting the ZNPP from a radiation accident," the message added.
As of the morning of August 18, Zaporizhzhya NPP operates with the risk of violating radiation and fire safety standards. Energoatom reported that the periodic shelling of the ZNPP by Russian troops with anti-aircraft missiles posed a serious risk to the safe operation of the plant.
