Russia shells Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant site, injuring one worker - Energoatom
Russian forces continue their campaign of nuclear terrorism at the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant site, (ZNPP) which they occupied.
As reported by Energoatom on August 7, yesterday, August 6, in the evening, the Russian occupiers once again fired rockets at the site of the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant and the city of Energodar. They hit the site of the ZNPP directly next to the station's dry spent nuclear fuel storage facility.
"Obviously, they targeted specifically the spent nuclear fuel containers, which are stored in the open air near the sites of shelling. 174 containers, each of which contains 24 assemblies of spent nuclear fuel! Due to enemy missile attacks, three radiation monitoring sensors around the SSVYAP site of the ZNPP were damaged. Therefore, timely detection and response in the event of deterioration of the radiation situation or leakage of radiation from spent nuclear fuel containers is currently impossible. Due to numerous small fragments from the explosions, about 800 square meters of window surfaces in various buildings of the station were damaged," the department wrote.
Energoatom also adds that as a result of the explosions, one ZNPP worker was injured by shrapnel and was taken to the city hospital.
"All Russian military personnel, of whom up to 500 people have been at the ZNPP site since the day of its capture, as well as the personnel of the terrorist Rosatom, hid in advance in the bunkers of the station's crisis center and technical support center. The Russian military also fired near the territory of the factory of construction structures and at the water intake of Energodar city", the department notes.
