Russia reportedly forms “special Buryat battalion” with DPRK citizens
Russia is allegedly forming a so-called "special Buryat battalion" within the 11th Separate Airborne Brigade of the Russian army, with personnel being staffed by North Korean citizens
Suspilne reported the information, citing its own intelligence sources.
The battalion's estimated personnel strength is up to 3,000 soldiers, and it is currently being supplied with small arms and ammunition.
Intelligence indicates that this battalion may be deployed for combat missions near the Russian towns of Sudzha and Kursk.
On October 4, the Kyiv Post reported that a missile strike on the occupied territory of Donetsk region killed 20 soldiers. Among them, in particular, were six soldiers from the DPRK who were consulting the Russian army.
On Tuesday, October 8, South Korean Defense Minister Kim Yong-hyun warned that North Korea could send its troops to Ukraine to support Russia.
On October 13, reports indicated that Russia continues to strengthen its alliance with North Korea. This includes the transfer of North Korean military personnel into the ranks of the Russian army.
On October 15, Russian leader Vladimir Putin submitted to the State Duma a draft law on the ratification of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Agreement between Russia and the DPRK.
