"According to preliminary information, there is a small arms battle with the enemy on the border of the village. All relevant agencies are keeping the situation under control," Gladkov wrote.
In particular, Russia reported damage to power lines in several villages, adding that emergency and operational services would begin to eliminate the consequences after coordination with the Russian Ministry of Defense.
Ukraine’s Defense Intelligence (HUR) has confirmed the fact of military clashes near the village of Terebreno, Belgorod region via its Telegram channel.
"As a result of an attack carried out by opponents of the Kremlin regime in the Belgorod region, a platoon stronghold of Russian troops was destroyed," the statement reads.
The HUR noted that the unexpected attack on the positions of Russia's army units "caused a panic reaction among the personnel of the local garrison" and chaotic artillery fire was opened on the surrounding villages.
Later, the volunteer Legion "Freedom of Russia" claimed responsibility for the incident.
"Today, on December 17, the assault units of the Legion "Freedom of Russia" entered the Belgorod region of the Russian Federation, destroyed a platoon stronghold of Putin's troops near the familiar Terebreno, completed their tasks and have already returned. Photos and videos will be posted later, after we catch our breath," the Russian volunteers said in a statement.
"On the way back, we left an interesting puzzle... for the 'specialists' of Putin's engineering troops. Go ahead and update the maps of minefields," the Legion added.
"And to those who write about the 'Ukrainian subversive group', we would like to explain once again: we are Russian volunteers, and we have the right to come home at any time. Moreover, for a good purpose," the Legion "Freedom of Russia" emphasized.
