Russia promotes fabricated narrative on peacekeepers in Ukraine — political expert
Vadym Denysenko, political expert and journalist, believes that in modern history, peacekeeping missions have either been symbolic or have performed police functions
He shared his opinions with Espreso TV.
"Regarding peacekeepers on Ukrainian territory, we must clearly understand that this is actually a fabricated story that the Russians are deliberately promoting. The fact is, all peacekeeping missions known in modern times over the past 30–50 years have been either symbolic or performing police functions, meaning there have been no serious military peacekeeping missions that are effective in such formats," noted the political expert.
He added that it is clear there are no peacekeepers in Abkhazia, South Ossetia, or Transnistria, as it is obvious these are occupying forces coming to specific territories to support Russia's interests.
"We will not have any peacekeeping mission that involves the presence of Russian troops, as the Russian army will be positioned on the line of demarcation, just like the Ukrainian Defense Forces. When the Russians bring up the topic of 'peacekeepers,' let me say once again – this is a fabricated issue designed to make Ukraine start arguing about it, to discuss why we are against allowing Chinese or Belarusian troops here. I want to emphasize that peacekeepers never play any serious role; at most, they can perform police functions, which we do not need," stressed Vadym Denysenko.
- On March 8, French Foreign Ministry spokesperson Christophe Lemoine said that European countries are currently discussing only the possibility of sending their troops to Ukraine, not their number.
